Master of Education( M.Ed ) is a professional Teacher Education course undertaken to become eligible to become teacher educators as well take on specialized and supervisory roles in the field. This course provides an opportunity for professionals in the field of Education to undertake advanced coursework and research in their area of interest.The purpose of the M.Ed. course is to create educators as adaptive experts and transformative intellectuals.

Masters of Art in Educational Management & Leadership (MAEML)

Masters of Art in Educational Management & Leadership is a 2 year program conducted by K J Somaiya College of Education.Keeping in perspective the multiple entry and exit option given by NEP 2020, the students will have the following option.

  • Complete 2 semesters of the program and exit with Diploma ie Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Management (PGDEM) or Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (PGDEL)( as per the program opted).
  • Complete 4 semesters of the program and exit with Masters of Arts in Educational Management & Leadership.
  • Re-enter in the 2 nd year and complete 3 and 4 th semester to convert the Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Management (PGDEM) or Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (PGDEL) into a Masters of Arts in Educational Management & Leadership.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for Post Graduate Courses-

M.Ed Program

  • Completed B.Ed. /B.A.-B.Ed.,/B.Sc.-B.Ed./B.El.Ed. from NCTE Approved College of Education (50% marks minimum)

    AND

  • Should clear PERA-CET M Ed 2025/ M Ed MHT-CET 2025/M Ed CUET 2025.

MAEML Program

  • Must have completed BEd/BA in Education or Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in any other discipline (50% marks minimum)

    AND

  • Must have completed PGDEM or PGDEL (50% marks minimum) is eligible to take admission in the 2nd year of the MAEML programme within 3 years of completing any of the said diploma programmes.

Candidates with B.Ed degree/ B.A in Education degree will be eligible to apply for Somaiya M.Ed. The Application fee is neither refundable nor transferable under any circumstances.

  • The above schedule may change under unavoidable circumstances or as per directive or instructions from admitting authorities of Somaiya Vidyavihar University. The revised schedule, if any, will be notified on the website.
  • A provisional seat will be offered based on the merit, and availability of seats. The candidate will be communicated via email about his/her status of admission whether confirmed or waitlisted.
  • A candidate who is offered a provisional seat will need to pay 72,800/- as per stipulated admission schedule (i.e. deadline) to secure the confirmed admission.
  • Candidate who does not pay the requisite amount as per the deadline will lose his/her claim on the confirmed seat during that phase.
  • A candidate who has been allotted a provisional/confirmed seat as per his/her first choice but fails to secure the same within the deadline, his/her candidature will not be considered in further rounds of that phase.
  • Provisional admission needs to be confirmed within four working days of declaration of result of graduation or equivalent examinations, by paying the remaining balance of fees.
  • The final confirmation of admission is subject to physical verification of the documents. In case of non-availability of valid documents, the confirmation of the admission will result in cancellation.
  • In case, if the result of graduation or equivalent examination is declared prior to seat allotment/payment of fees (in any of the rounds) whichever is earlier, and the candidate satisfies the eligibility criteria, then the allotted seat will be treated as final seat instead of the provisional seat and the candidate needs to confirm the seat by paying full/balance fees as is applicable.

Cancellation Policy for First Year M.Ed 2025-26

Academic Break

After commencement of the B.Ed programme, if a student wants to take a break for any valid reason, then he/she can do so as per the following norms :

The academic break can be granted to any student by the Dean and the maximum period for an academic break can vary from one semester to one year only. This will be based on the Dean getting convinced of the reason for academic break.

Eligibility for academic break:

  • Serious personal medical reasons involving hospitalization or serious family issues, on the condition of providing valid medical certificates or relevant documents.
  • Pregnancy/Maternity

The Dean will approve the academic break and forward the application of the student to the admission/ department for necessary process.

The academic break can be granted to any student at most once during the programme for the maximum period of academic one year.

  • Payment of Fees for the academic break: If the student has informed the Dean regarding academic break before the commencement of the relevant year and not paid the total fees for that year, then if his/her academic break is granted, he/she can pay the total fee (100%) prevalent at that time when he seeks re-admission.
  • If a student wants to take academic break after the commencement of the academic year, but he/she has not attended the classes and if the fees is not paid, then while seeking readmission he/she has to pay the total fee (100%) plus 25% of the total fee as re-admission fee to continue his/her studentship.
  • If the student has paid the total fee for the entire year and then sought the academic break after commencement of that academic year in the middle of semester again, then he/she has to pay 25% of the total fee prevalent at that time, towards re-admission in subsequent years.
